Fantastic
Rocks and Ruins™
Tours

PLEASE NOTE -- we do not offer gem collecting or digging tours -- there are no good places to visit that are not on private land.

GemLand offers custom half-day group tours of the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas.  Several different versions are available.
Experience the stunning landscape of the , and discover for yourself the amazing archaeology and geology of the Valley of the Sun!

Downtown Phoenix, Arizona from near the top of the South Mountain "metamorphic core complex". This geologic structure is just one of the many fascinating rock formations in the Valley of the Sun.

Arizona geology tours, and geology tours of the Phoenix / Scottsdale areas are a speciality of GemLand.
Yes, it's snow!  Higher areas around the Valley of the Sun can even get cold!  But the geology is always great, and the desert always exerts a magic appeal.
   Surrealistic rocks, exotic cacti,
and colorful landscapes like nowhere else await you or your group.

We visit one of our area's largest sets of prehistoric ruins --
in this case, the great platform mound at Pueblo Grande.  These wall were built more than 600 years ago when our valley was the fertile heartland of the Hohokam people.  Like the mythical bird of old, modern day Phoenix rose from the "ashes" of another civilization!

You can see ancient Hohokam pottery at Pueblo Grande.

Besides some great outdoor photo opportunities throughout the Valley, we visit the Pueblo Grande Museum and Gift Shop, downtown Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale, and the Deer Valley Rock Art Center.  We also include several rest stops at various points along the way.
Tours can be arranged to meet your group's schedule.

The Hohokam people built this "platform mound" more than six centuries ago!

Downtown Phoenix, Arizona is located in the midst of geologic splendor. We take you right through it.
Learn about the fourth rock type,
pictured above.  Some esoterica,
just in case you are interested!

Geology tours are fun and interesting! How else would we know about rocks? We work with The Boulders, Four Seasons Scottsdale, Sanctuary on Camelback, the Royal Palms, and Camelback Inn.
Geology tours are
FUN and interesting!

Weirdly-shaped stone formations, such as these in the Papago Buttes, make the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas a favorite place for rock lovers.

Cost per person varies according to tour details, and includes resort / hotel pickup, light snacks, and soft drinks.  Please call for pricing.
Wear comfortable shoes (you might want to get out and walk a bit), and bring a coat in the winter months.  It can get cold and breezy in the desert -- some of the places we visit are more than 1000 feet (~300m) higher than central Phoenix!
